RESTORATION PROJECTS

Preserving Our Railroad Heritage

The Berkshire Scenic Railway Museum's restoration and preservation work is funded by a variety of revenue sources. Ticket sales from our train rides is the largest revenue source, followed by grant funding, donations and our membership program. Whether you ride our historic train, join as a member or donate to a particular project, you are helping preserve the rich legacy of railroading in Western Massachusetts and the human stories behind the buildings, locomotives, rail cars and artifacts for future generations to enjoy and learn from.

Although our resources are limited, BSRM's spirit and determination to fulfill our mission is boundless. Some of our restoration activity is performed by our Mechanical Department volunteers, which include talented and dedicated people from all backgrounds with a variety of skills, education, experience and training. Some components of a restoration are beyond the resources of time, skill or labor and for those tasks we will hire a professional firm to accomplish the individual task - contributing to BSRM's positive economic impact on the region and beyond.

Although we have a variety of restoration projects, large and small, underway at any given time we are proud to highlight some of our projects on this page. Should you be compelled to join us in meeting our mission of preserving our rich railroad heritage, please visit our Membership page, Volunteeer Opportunity page or click on the individual DONATE button associated with any of our projects below. Your contribution of time, talent and treasure is greatly appreciated!
